Ian Blackman and Chris Spargo practised law in a large provincial law firm in Rotorua. In 2002 they came to the realisation that the work that gave them most satisfaction was rural work. The clients with whom they formed the closest relationships were farming families.
This led Ian and Chris to a decision, which many considered to be foolhardy, to create a new law firm committed to the rural sector and to farming families.
Forming a new law firm gave them the opportunity to build from the ground up. They formulated a strategy based on Jim Collins’ book Good to Great. The end result was a law firm built to last and to span the generations of farming families.
As a result of their commitment to creating a great law firm servicing the rural sector the team at BlackmanSpargo formulated the following goal and envisioned future:
Goal:
“BlackmanSpargo will have a significant positive impact on farming families.”
The Envisioned Future:
“BlackmanSpargo will be the pre-eminent, trusted adviser to farming families in New Zealand by providing innovative, practical and valuable solutions.”
