Ian has enjoyed a long and rewarding career in the banking and legal world, including employment with the Treasury, the Department of Inland Revenue, the Department of Labour, and the Rural Banking & Finance Corporation.

In the early 1980s, Ian was the lending manager of the Rural Bank in Rotorua and moved into private practice in 1985.  With a rural banking background and a passion for farmers, Ian quickly built a strong rural client base.

Ian co-founded BlackmanSpargo with Chris Spargo in 2003 and although now retired from legal practice, Ian continues to share his extensive knowledge with the directors.  

Ian remains passionate about helping farming families plan their future and has presented at many conferences over the years.
